David Spivey, BACP
About me
I am licensed in the UK with 16 years of professional work experience. I have experience and a passion for helping clients with compassion fatigue. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.
My experience is extensive and varied with careers in retail, a business owner in the construction industry for 20 years and more recently working as a manager in the voluntary sector with homeless young adults and unpaid carers. I have volunteered in a Hospice supporting bereaved relatives and as a business mentor for the Princes Trust.
I have experience of working with people from a diverse range of ages, backgrounds and life experiences. Through this work I have come to realise that the difficulties clients bring may have a common theme such as depression, anxiety, an unlived life, relationship difficulties and financial issues to name a few, however, how they manifest in your life and how you manage them is unique to you.
We are often too close to our difficulties to be objective and find a way through, friends and family may want to help but similarly are too close, or you may be alone with no one to turn to.
By creating a safe, confidential space I offer you a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing or the outcomes you are looking for, with another human being from outside your day-to-day life. Together we will explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives and a new understanding of yourself and your own unique path.
My approach to counselling and coaching is humanistic (which means relational) within a transpersonal framework (which is beyond the person. This allows for metaphor, symbolism, dreams, images and stories to expand beyond the spoken word) I integrate my counselling and coaching skill set with a soulful perspective and tailor our sessions in a way that meets your needs.

Very satisfied about the progress I have made with David. David manages to listen, a lot whilst still providing useful support and guidance. I have made enormous progress in many aspects of my life that find their roots in the sessions with David. Wholeheartedly recommend!

I started working with David during a period of transition. He helped me feel grounded and provided a comfortable and productive space in which I could think deliberately and make more intentional choices in my life. For this and the comforting practice of meditation he has given me, I am very grateful. If you are new to therepy or have not worked with a therapist in a while, I would highly recommend working with David.
